I was amazed....

"A crystal clean story"

Hello, I'm Douglas Savage. My background is in the arts, as a painter, photographer, cameraman, director, writer and producer. I spent years in the film business beginning in Paris, then working in New York City, making independent features, documentaries and television commercials.

It was in Paris that I learned to drink and love good wine. I continued my education on return to my native New York under the tutelage of some excellent wine merchants.

I had the great good fortune to be able to taste and drink some of the best wines in the world, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhone, California and others. For the past fifteen years I've been consulting for a prominent Northeast wine merchant.

In June 1999, after opening a bottle of Rioja I'd received as a gift, and pouring a glass, a large drip remained on the neck. Being alone I licked it off. Delicious!

With great anticipation I took a sip from my glass. Bitter! I knew that taste. I'd encountered it every time I poured a glass from a fresh bottle. I'd thought it was the alcohol gassing off as I often drink young wines.

I took another sip from the glass, still bitter. Curious I took a sip from the bottle. Still delicious!

What happened between the bottle and the glass?

I had to know. Thus began my quest for the wonderful wine glass cleaner I now call Restaurant Crystal Clean™

First, I tried to find something to buy that worked, I didn't find anything that worked to my satisfaction. Next I tried just very hot water, but olive oil, butter, lipstick etc over time leave the glasses grungy. I also tried vinegar and washing soda, if any of these methods had really worked I would still be doing it. There had to be a better way.

I researched hundreds of ingredients and tested dozens to come up with a formula that worked and met all my criteria: clear, odorless, fragrance free, petroleum free and 100% biodegradable. Finally I found it. It worked!

I gave out samples to friends and then Riedel Crystal dealers. The response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, particularly from porfessionals and crystal merchants, who urged me to make it and sell it; it was something they needed.

Thanks to all the wonderful customers I have and especially those I've had the pleasure of speaking with over the years, it is a business that I get great satisfaction from,;helping people enjoy their wines and their glassware.
